Babatunde Sosan is the former Organist and Master of Music at the Cathedral Church of Christ, Marina, Lagos. As a result of his exceptional musical proficiency, he has received various awards, notably: Finalist, English and Song Vocal Competition at Trinity College of Music, London (February, 2007); highest scorer in Grade 8 piano at the MUSON performance awards (2002), and the Performance Merit Award from the Cathedral Church of Christ (presented to him by the former Governor of Lagos State, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu). A great-grandson of the music legend, Dr T.K.E. Phillips, Babatunde's musical journey was charted by his first two instructors: Arinola Sosan (his grandmother) and Mrs Tolu Obajimi (Organist and Master of Music, Cathedral Church of Christ, Lagos). Following his graduation as a Physiotherapist from the Lagos University Teaching Hospital College of Medicine, he proceeded to complete a 5-year course at the Trinity College of Music, Greenwich, England. He was sponsored by the Women's Guild Auxiliary Society of the Cathedral Church of Christ and graduated with a Bachelor of Music degree (with honours) in Piano and Organ performance. Besides his affiliation with a section of the music therapy team working with Greenwich Toy Library Department to support special needs children in London, Babatunde has performed on the hit musical reality television show, Nigerian Idol (Season 1), as well as in various recording projects like Jesus House's collaboration with the Festival of Life planning team. (Jesus House is a parish of the Redeemed Christian Church of God based in London). His musical interests involve a broad range of musical styles like jazz, contemporary, classical, gospel and Latin influenced pieces. He particularly enjoys travelling, teaching and working with children. Babatunde Sosan is one of the leading experts for pianists' forums in Nigeria. He is the International Music Consultant for his company, DE Studios Lyrical Keys and the current Resident Pianist and former Acting Director of the School of Music at MUSON. He was the first African in history to perform the Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue piano concerto at a major festival performance in the history of Nigeria. Presently he is pursuing a master's degree in music education and performance at the University of Hull. He is happily married to his beautiful wife Adejoke and they are blessed with four wonderful children.
